I’m Very Into You

Directed and Adapted by Sara Lyons

In 1995, Kathy Acker and Ken Wark met at a conference in Australia and fell into a fast and furious love affair. After Acker returned to San Francisco, they started exchanging emails, arguing about gender theory and falling in love as they delved into their own struggles to understand gender and sexuality. I'm Very Into You glimpses into how intimacy and relationships are redefined online- underscored by these writers' radicalism, lust, and desire to be together.

I collaborated with Sara Lyons on an adaptation of the book, I'm Very Into You, an epistolary collection of emails between celebrated intellectuals Kathy Acker and McKenzie Wark. This production gave me first hand experience with adaptation and working with a changing text, and for my work I was selected to present as part of ATHE’s Dramaturgy Debut Panel.

Why am I telling you all this? Partly 'cause the whole queerness/identity thing for me stretches through everything, absolutely everything. Slipping between straight/gay is child's play compared to slipping between writer/teacher/influence-peddler whatever. I forget who I am. You remind me of who I prefer to be.
